Learning Mentor Team
The Learning Mentor Team is made up of Miss Davies, Miss Metcalfe and Mr Warren.
Learning mentors provide support to teachers helping children to overcome barriers to learning in order to achieve their full potential.
We work with all pupils over KS1 and KS2, but try and give priority to those who need the most help. The issues that we support pupils with can include:
- Punctuality - which we have improved by setting up a free walking bus. Read more...
- Absence - where by we introduce home visits.
- Bullying - implementing statagies for individual pupils, circle of friends, listening and helping pupils to resolve a range of issues, also working with parents when necessary.
- Challenging behaviour - one to one support and group workshops help build self esteem.
- We are also involved in home visits with parents and carers to discuss any issues and problems. We visit parents on behaviour strategies and networking with other learning mentors and teachers and referring pupils to other appropriate professionals, e.g. social workers and educational psychologists.
Learning Mentors are also involved in:
- Organizing after school activities, such as singing, cooking and dance etc.
- Lunch time or out-of-school activities.
- Assisting transition for pupils moving to secondary schools.
- School Council - A chance for pupils to have their say.
