We are looking forward to starting our new school year.

Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit (tee shirt, shorts and plimsolls or trainers) in school from Monday to Friday.

 

 

Keeping you informed in year 4

Work this term will be based around:

Literacy: Stories with historical settings; Exploring poetry; Recounts, newspapers.

Maths: Addition and subtraction strategies; multiplication and division; money; measurement; fractions; units of time; problem solving; handling data

Science: Teeth; Helping plants grow

ICT: Developing word processing skills and using a drawing package.  This term we will have laptops in the classroom and work will be incorporated into our topics.

Design and Technology: Designing packaging

Geography: Out and about in Derbyshire

Art: Derbyshire art       Music: Baritone and cornet lessons

PE: Athletics; swimming

RE: Sikhism; Christianity

PSHE: Relationships and changes: Living and growing

You can help your child by:

Ensuring that they read a range of texts regularly.  For example, stories, poems, newspaper reports and non-fiction information books.

Ensuring that they complete and return homework on time.

Helping them to increase their speed at mental arithmetic – any type of sums in their head; times tables



During the term:

We have PE throughout the week (please ensure that your child has a T-shirt, shorts or leggings and a change of trainers or plimsolls.)  Swimming will be on Thursday and Friday afternoons.  Please bring swimming trunks (not baggy shorts) or a swimming costume, towel and bag.
 

Homework:

Homework will be set on Friday and needs to be returned the following Tuesday.  The homework will include one literacy, one numeracy and one topic piece of work.  It will be based on the objectives we have studied during the week.
